Fine, Cupid by Janet Frishberg

Fine, Cupid by Janet Frishberg

What I’m looking for:

A relationship that works like a cremaillere. Bonus points if you know how to punctuate that. Just kidding, I’m not that pretentious. I’ll be the straight bar, you be the wheel. Or maybe we switch off. Either way, I’m looking for someone where our teeth align. Want to be my pignon?

What I’m looking for:

In your medieval past life, were you a benevolent ruler? Were you a merchant? A sailor? A thief? Fantastic.

No minstrels please. Really. I’m tired of songs.

What I’m looking for:

Only this: to meet someone who, if I woke you up at 6 AM because there were 2 stars and the moon lined up perfectly in the dawn, you wouldn’t say, “What time is it?”

What I’m looking for:

I like eating delicious mostly vegetarian meals and going to hear music blablablablablabla.

You are witty. You like whiskey. You snowboard. You hate driving but you love driving to go camping. I get it.

What I’m wondering is where is the person who will, when we are old and wrinkled and smelly like a cotton-acrylic blend shirt left in the bottom of the laundry bag for too long, hold my hand on the way to the library? Will you choose my cashmere sweater sets for me when I no longer remember how to dress myself?

What I’m looking for:

  1. Can I laugh with a poppy seed in my left front tooth and you’ll still find me beautiful?
  2. Do you want me to stick my tongue into your elbow crook in the sunny afternoon of the park, just to hear you squeal?
  3. And when I show you the scars, will you not make them into nothing and not make them into everything but instead just run your fingers over them and read them like Braille, like a book you already knew but are just now rediscovering?
