After reading through many excellent submissions to our 3rd annual Kick-Ass Haiku Contest, including some very kick-ass honorable mentions from William Cullen, Carie Juettner, Lori Martinez, Jodi McMaster and Jeffrey Owens, we are pleased to announce the winner of this year’s contest:
Allen Taylor is an award-winning poet, fiction writer, and journalist. He is the author of Rumsfeld’s Sandbox, a book of poetry inspired by his one year in Iraq as a National Guard officer. It is available for the Kindle at Amazon. He is the editor-publisher of Garden Gnome Publications and keeps a personal blog at AllenLeeTaylor.com. You can find him on Twitter posting 3 poems a day using the #twitpoem hashtag.
Here is Allen’s winning “City of the Future”-themed haiku:
She is a bunsen burner,
The City of Light,
Spiraling toward the heavens
For his winning poem Allen receives $250 in cash, a digital copy of each of Buttontapper Press‘s published titles, and inclusion as the featured poet in the forthcoming Futuristic Haiku anthology, to be published by Buttontapper Press in 2014. Congrats!
Thanks to all who entered the contest for sharing their awesome and imaginative haiku with us, and we look forward to holding our 4th competition next year.
