11/22 – Your regularly scheduled contest updates
This week it’s back to your regularly scheduled updates regarding writing contests from around the world (and around the web), but first, we’d like to extend a special thank-you to all those who entered our first annual KICK-ASS Writing Contest. Submissions are now closed, and we’re working our way through the entries all this week. We hope to notify a winner by the end of November, and get back to everyone who entered under the WITH CRITIQUE category with comments by December 31 at the very latest. Thanks so much for sending us your Kick-Ass works, and we look forward to holding another contest in the New Year!
And now, on to this week’s writing contests.
Literary Laundry Writing Competition
Literary Laundry is an online publication, in search of great literature from both writing students and the general populace.
Prizes:
- Best poem = $500
- Best short story = $500
- Best one-act drama = $250
- Additional undergraduate awards of $250 each for best poem and best short story will also be awarded to current students
Entry Fee: None!
Word Count: Up to 3 pages of poetry, one short story (up to 10 pages, single spaced), or one one-act drama (up to 15 pages, single-spaced)
Deadline: December 1, 2010

Bayou Magazine’s James Knudsen Editor’s Prize for Fiction
Bayou Magazine is published by the University of New Orleans.
Prize: $500 and publication
Entry Fee: $15 (includes a one-year subscription to the magazine)
Word Count: 7,500 words
Deadline: December 31, 2010

Wild Words Prose Competition
The Wild Words Prose Competition is sponsored by the Writers’ Community of Durham Region (in Ontario, Canada).
Prizes:
- First = $750 and publication in the Wild Words anthology, with contributor’s copies
- Second = $500 (and publication, copies)
- Third = $250 (and publication, copies)
- Selected honourable mentions will also be published in the anthology and receive $25 plus their contributor’s copy, and ALL entries receive feedback from the judges
Entry Fee: $20 (CAN); $25 for international entrants (i.e. non-Canadians)
Word Count: 1,200 words
Deadline: November 30, 2010
