6/28: Glimmer Train & Zombie Luv
Not much time left on the first of our contests this week, so we’ve decided to include a two-fer to get your writing motors running full-speed.
First up, the almighty Glimmer Train annual summer writing contest is here, and the deadline is this Wednesday, so you’d better get cracking! For those who aren’t already aware, Glimmer Train is a long-running quarterly, publishing around 220 pages of new work in each of their issues. Overall, the magazine pays out more than $45,000 yearly to writers, with approximately 1/3 of that amount going to new writers. In other words, you don’t have to be a big-shot to get published at Glimmer Train, and that rocks.
Check out the short-form deets below.
GLIMMER TRAIN FICTION OPEN
Deadline: June 30, 2010
Entry fee = $20 per story (steep but worth it once you see the prizes)
Truly FABULOUS prizes include:
* 1st place gets ya $2,000 + publication in Glimmer Train Stories and 20 copies thereof
* 2nd place wins $1,000 + possible publication
* 3rd place nets $600 + possible publication
This particular contest is open to all, and accepts work anywhere from 2,000 to 20,000 words. Results will be posted on August 31, and the winning story will be published in Issue 80.

MARI’S RANDOMITIES ZOMBIE LUV FLASH FIC CONTEST
For all those who don’t have the next great novella ready to go on the Glimmer Train contest, we’ve got a second writing contest for you to consider this week. This one is arguably less serious in its scope, and charges no entry fee for participation, which we dig (we are, after all, broke-ass writers). Without further ado, check out the Zombie Luv Flash Fiction Contest deets, in full:
No entry fee!
Prize = publication at Flashes in the Dark + a copy of the novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Entries can be up to 1,000 words and must be a romance between (at least) 2 zombie characters.
